According to BankInfoSecurity, cyber criminals launched an attack last week preying on email recipients’ interest in the uncertainty of the US presidential election results.  Shortly after polls closed on Election Day, phishing emails were sent containing the Qbot banking Trojan.  Some messages contained a zip file labeled “ElectionInterference.”

Cyber criminals frequently use current events with high visibility to cloak their nefarious emails.  Earlier this year, there was a phishing attack themed around the COVID-19 pandemic, for example.
